Mangaluru: The 2025 Mangalore Dasara at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple has been celebrated with grandeur, drawing comparisons with the iconic Mysuru Dasara. State Religious Endowments and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the festival, guided by former Union Minister B Janardhan Poojary, has become a symbol of pride for Karnataka.
Speaking at the inauguration, Reddy praised Poojary as an unparalleled organiser whose leadership has elevated Mangalore Dasara to national prominence. Former Union Minister Janardhan Poojary presided over the function, which was attended by political leaders including Dakshina Kannada MP K Brijesh Chowta, MLCs Manjunatha Bhandari and Ivan D’Souza, and former minister B Ramanath Rai.
Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that the state government will provide funds for Mangalore Dasara from next year, following the model of Mysuru and Madikeri Dasara. He added that art troupes would be sent to participate in the festival procession, highlighting the role of cultural and spiritual heritage in the region.
Assembly Speaker U T Khader said Kudroli reflects the essence of Dakshina Kannada’s culture. “Religious faith is not weakness; it is our strength. India’s soul is unity in diversity, and we must continue on that path,” he said.
The Dasara Honorary Award 2025 was presented to Dr M Mohan Alva, Dr Tukaram Poojary, and Dr Durga Prasad MR. Shalet, known for caring for mute animals, received the Asamanya Stree Puraskar for her social contributions.
